Core Glass Types & Materials
What Tempered Glass means
Tempered Glass means safety glass that is heat-treated to be stronger than annealed glass and to break into small granular pieces instead of long sharp shards.
Tempered glass is created through a controlled heat-treatment process that increases strength and changes the way the glass breaks. It is commonly required or recommended in doors, shower enclosures, sidelites, low glass areas, and other locations where people may come into contact with glass. Because it cannot be cut or drilled after tempering, final measurements, holes, notches, and edgework must be correct before fabrication.
Customers usually encounter this term while choosing material, appearance, thickness, safety performance, or replacement options. Use this term when explaining material choices, safety requirements, appearance, lead time, and project cost.
